It is a fatal mistake to assume that God’s goal for your life is material prosperity or popular success, as the world defines it. The abundant life has nothing to do with material abundance, and faithfulness to God does not guarantee success in a career or even in ministry. Never focus on temporary crowns!- Rick WarrenBeyond making a living out of a career we should be thinking of making a life out of it.This implies that the proper balance for work, family and God is maintained at all times.Marriages, families and Gods calling upon the lives of many have been sacrificed at the altar of a career.
Because it is legitimate it’s so easy to cross the line and fall short of Gods expectations without knowing it, therefore it is imperative to have values criteria that guides us in our career and the choices we make. Below are a few set of criteria I use;1.It must in no way interfere with my Christian convictions and values
2. It must be able to give me a platform to reveal Christ by my work
3. It should be able to provide financial resources to ;
-Fund the gospel
-Meet needs of myself and others
-It must be profitable
4.It must give me exposure and there must be opportunity to build capacity (Something to Learn).
5. I Always obey the golden rules of Eph 6:5-9 in my interactions with subordinates and Bosses.
These criteria are not cast in stone,therefore constantly refine as you recieve more wisdom from God..Its just a spring board.
Plan your career-Build skills, close developmental gaps and ACCEPT OPPORTUNITIES.
You will never be able to do all the work that needs to be done, your plate will always be full! But by eliminating low value work, you can make better choices and focus on what is most important.Note what’s valuable and what is urgent-The most effort should be given to what is urgent.
You may not believe this, but evidences show that working more than 60 hours a week makes it difficult to maintain balance between work, family and God. However occasional periods in excess of this is allowed when occasion demands -I have been up for two straight nights, but it’s not supposed to be a regular schedule.
On this, lets go back in time;
Ford Motor Company in 1926 became one of the first companies in America to adopt a five-day, 40-hour week for workers in its automotive factories.At Ford’s own admission, however, the five-day workweek was also instituted in order to INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY: Though workers’ time on the job had decreased, they were expected to expend more effort while they were there. Manufacturers all over the country, and the world, soon followed Ford’s lead, and the Monday-to-Friday workweek became standard practice…Lets learn from history.
More hours, does not mean more work is done. Once the human limit is reached- the rest is eye service. People just begin to form busy, there would be no productive work. Employers, especially my Christian Brothers and Sisters, please take note and let your employees have a life.
Your long hours are admirable but go home; REST , RECONNECT AND RECHARGE .
